Driving at night time may increase the risk of accidents if drivers are not able to clearly see what is ahead. Automatic high-beam will help you to see more of what’s ahead at night time without dazzling other drivers.  It is included as part of the Toyota Safety Sense.

When enabled, automatic high-beam uses an in-vehicle camera to help detect the headlights of oncoming vehicles and taillights of proceeding Vehicles. It automatically provides the most light possible by enhancing forward visibility by switching between high and low beams.

The system is activated when you are at vehicle speeds above approximately 34 km/h and the auto high beam feature is enabled.

radar and camera sensing for toyota safety sense

The vehicle’s camera is designed to detect headlights of oncoming vehicles for the taillights of proceeding Vehicles, then automatically switch to the low beams. After the system senses the oncoming vehicle has passed or the distance between your vehicle in the preceding vehicles increases, it automatically reverts back to the high beams. By using high beams more frequently, the system may allow earlier detection of pedestrians and obstacles.
